New Look Coming

I’ve started reworking the look of the site to be easier to use.  The calendar, categories, and archives are for the most part fairly worthless.  I should probably add into the code some tracking stuff related to how often they are used, but for the most part there are only two things “useful” in the current design: posts and audio.

The audio isn’t set up to be easily scanned to see what has been recently updated (though I did add in the latest update and they are listed in order of update).  Since we know what the long term vision for the site is, it makes sense to move to an html equivalent of that look now.  The main issue I’m having with it are in regards to Internet Explorer refusing to make elements “fixed” within the browser. There is an issue regarding how to handle the display for 1024×768 users but I’m going to face that regardless.  for the most part it’s designed to be viewed at the very least of 1280×1024 (which is like 15% of the users on the web if memory serves me correctly).

So be on the look out for something different and easier to use.

Dropping Sketches for a Framework

So on monday I didn’t have to go into work, and as a result I spent a decent amount of time in the studio. About three years ago I was going to do a project with a couple people and put down the initial framework for a track and the resulting recordings I got back were pretty henious. Well I spent a good deal of time with it after the project kind of “died” and then really forgot about it.

Well I forgot about it in the sense of not working with it. I frequently have had the bassline and drums running through my head. I decided to pull it up and start working with it again. Our friend Batterman decided almost spontaneously (he’d mentioned last week that he was thinking of coming out Monday or Tuesday) to come out, so rather than pulling up something we’d been working on, I decided to use the foundation as a starting point to capture some ideas down.

The end result is the beginnings of Dragon Droppings. I spent about two hours yesterday pulling apart aspects that aren’t in the recording to seperate them out into their own channels (midi data makes that task so much easier).
