Dropping Sketches for a Framework

January 19th, 2006 | mosquito

So on monday I didn’t have to go into work, and as a result I spent a decent amount of time in the studio. About three years ago I was going to do a project with a couple people and put down the initial framework for a track and the resulting recordings I got back were pretty henious. Well I spent a good deal of time with it after the project kind of “died” and then really forgot about it.

Well I forgot about it in the sense of not working with it. I frequently have had the bassline and drums running through my head. I decided to pull it up and start working with it again. Our friend Batterman decided almost spontaneously (he’d mentioned last week that he was thinking of coming out Monday or Tuesday) to come out, so rather than pulling up something we’d been working on, I decided to use the foundation as a starting point to capture some ideas down.

The end result is the beginnings of Dragon Droppings. I spent about two hours yesterday pulling apart aspects that aren’t in the recording to seperate them out into their own channels (midi data makes that task so much easier).
