But it’s got lights and stuff

Last night while discussing if another alesis airfx or the korg kaoss pad would be the better approach as an effects insert on the individual synths, xipetotec asked me why I was leaning towards the kaoss pad. I said, “but it’s got lights and stuff!” At the moment it’s the best quote on the board of my studio statements. It would just be another one of the funny “inside jokes” between us, but shuteye was here to record guitar over the weekend, so there’s an outside witness at just how stupid I sounded.

We did get a lot recorded over the course of Friday evening and most of yesterday. At least half the tracks now have guitar on them. After we recorded the guitar, I did quick reference mixes chasing the guitar faders. So with that in mind:

Ampullae of Lorenzini
Following a Trail of Breadcrumbs
The Throb
Early Earthlings
Travelers and Tourists

I still need to mix down Dragon Droppings and Simulation vs Stimulation for reference. I hope to get them up later this week.

More track updates

i’ve updated a few more tracks on the site after last weekend’s studio sessions:
Early Earthlings
Riding A Thorazine Wave
Travelers and Tourists
Simulation vs Stimulation

Previously I had said that of the group uploaded only Early Earthlings would take updates, but Travelers and Tourists had some changes done to it as well. Travelers and Tourists has already reached the point that there are only two things we can think to add at this point: a bassline and more drums. The drums will come live, but we may sit down and put in the bass prior to converting everything to their live versions.

Riding a Thorazine Wave is probably going to take some heavy building and variations on the drums, but until it gells some more in our heads, we’ll probably move on to working on another track over the next week.

shuteye (The Shuteye Train) will be down next weekend to do some recording with us, and general debauchery. It will also be the weekend we finish off the last three Choking Sun Stouts.
