Day 146 : This Way to the Gas Chamber

September 5th, 2009 | mosquito

Ladies and Gentlemen, This Way to the Gas Chamber because the theater of the white man’s revolution is just about over.

actually its “Rock Tune 1 (Adam Nelson’s Mix)” from Lab Report (available on Drug Test Vol 2 from Invisible Records). it was recorded live during one of my/our dj sets years ago in the mid-nineties at the secret room when it was still at 688 spring street here in atlanta. i’d have to go look through the recordings to find the date, but since i can hear effects, it had to be one of the nights we hauled in our own gear to supplement. mainly a 16 channel mixer, roland s-50 sampler, a couple effects, and a rack mount tape deck/cd player. the club had two turntables and two cd players so we couple pile on the mayhem really fast.

for the most part its nothing more than a combination of tracks played at the same time and mixed. the intro i think is meat beat manifesto. it was the result of an accident in the dj booth in which we hit pause on the wrong machine; it happens. the vinyl being scratched is/was one of my staples: Lydia Lunch’s “Conspiracy of Women.” i haven’t seen it available for years at this point, so thankfully i still have it. i also played lab report’s “rave” from unhealthy along with at least one other track from lap report. to be honest, that one (and the specific location in the track) was almost always randomly selected. i just looked for something loud and ugly to pound in and push the channel close to red. if only we had compressors then.

we almost always had a blast dj’ing even if most of those attending weren’t really into it. we were always first on, and the guys that owned outa control loved us. jsin we knew through a common friend, and at the very least he tolerate our form of audio hell. it wasn’t uncommon to tell jokes or insult the audience over the PA system. we were young and reckless. after all, “isn’t that what you came here for?”
