A ritual to envoke the secret name. Performed live to cleanse the spirit of greed through satire.

Choking Sun is a triumvirate collective of artists who
specialize in multi-dimensional performances, utilizing
improvised and composed music, interactive sculpture,
video and analog projection, lightshows and ceremonial
aspects, to establish immersive environments for the
audience.

Formed from the remnants of the Order of the Beak,
Choking Sun gave their inaugural performance in
1997 at 688. Since then they have brought their
particular blend of multi-instrumental terror around the
country, from headlining the Pussycat Club in NYC to
collaborating with members of Swans for the 404
Noisefest in Atlanta.

Their musical endeavors are laden with spoken and
rhythmic samples, a diverse array of instrumentation
including cello, accordion, theremin, trumpet and
heavily processed bass and guitar, accentuated with
overlapping textures of sung and spoken lyrics, centered
around the absurdity of modern procedural existence.

Currently, in support of their newest release, “Kinky
Sex, Electrocution and Manslaughter”, Choking
Sun has developed the ENLIST show, a ceremony
depicting the cosmogenic hero cycle as initiation into
a secret society. Flanked by the Twins Gallows Gate,
Choking Sun weaves a dark tapestry of sound while
candidates are processed through stages of initiation,
including interaction with the Bucket of Mystery and
the Screaming Creator. Effects lighting, slide projection,
and interactive props surround the audience in a
whirlwind of Dantean aesthetics.
